The air leak can kick up a code when the O2 sensor reads an odd value, but the O2 sensors by themselves don't cause the vehicle to run badly or anything. An air leak can though.

Sounds like a blown head gasket. That woud explain the smoke and the lack of power as the cylinders cannot all fire.
