It sounds like the system is low, on freon. Take it somewhere, and they can top it up, or buy a kit and add 12-16 oz of r 134-a to the low side. Add it slowly, over the course of 2 minutes, so you don't flood the compressor, with liquid.

It sounds like you do not have the slave cylinder end of the hose hooked up to the slave cylinder. You have a hydro lock within the system.
