You do not need a CD drive, you need a DVD drive. Any standard DVD drive will fit. You may need to remove your CD drive first. The DVD drive will play both CDs and DVDs.

Yes, it should have come with Windows 7 already installed. Here is what you should have: http://my.asus.com/Notebooks/Versatile_Performance... If anything is missing, then you didn't get a "new" laptop.
