Does North Korea engage in any global trade?

I understand that North Korea is a communist nation with a primarily socialist economic system. However, do they engage in the global market at all? Or are their borders completely closed off from all foreign trade and investment?

  • They trade with China and even South Korea a little bit. But mostly China.

  • Yes, sure things. It buys rice and foods from many Asian countries, mostly China. It sells weapons and nuclear technologies to many countries in the middle east.

  • They appear to do a lot of black market meth and arms sales, seriously. They have also have a very fine counterfeiting industry.
