Grammar Verb Tense Concept Help?

Hi guys, I don't really have a specific question but I need some help on the concept of verb tense consistency. Ideally in a sentence, the same verb tense should be maintained right? So using a past tense verb means that all the other verbs in the same sentence must be in past tense? And does this apply for special verbs in the perfect or continuous form? Must I use a present tense verb if I already used a present perfect verb in the beginning of the sentence (in other words, would the perfect or continuous form of a verb make any exceptions or alterations to the sentence's verb consistency?)? Lastly, are there any exceptions to this rule or are there any scenarios where I am allowed to use two different verb tenses in the same sentence?

I hope I described my questions clearly. Please also provide an explanation alongside your response! Thank you so much in advance!

  • No, all tenses in a sentence don't have to be the same.

You do use the same tense for the same time frame, but if the time frame changes, the tense changes.

I had taken off my coat before I entered the house.

We walked to school this morning, but we will ride the bus home.

  • that's accepted because the sequence of Tenses. So if i adjust a right away citation as HE reported "i go homestead, into oblique speech, this must be HE reported THAT HE become GOING homestead: in addition HE reported "I incredibly have done IT" might want to grow to be HE reported THAT HE HAD done IT: In Latin, the position all early instructors of English grammar were given their recommendations from, this sequence of tenses is a rigid rule (partly because Roman instructors all had a dictatorial recommendations-set to pedagogy and their scholars conformed). In English, as you should have stated, some thing is going, and rules are made to be damaged. "Copernicus taught that the earth went around the daylight" is ideal, even though it makes human beings uneasy and they change the (more advantageous logical) solecism, "Coperniucs taught that the earth is going around the daylight". You will pay yer money and also you takes yer determination. If breaking the sequence of tenses seems more advantageous apt, more advantageous logical or more advantageous reachable to you, smash it by potential of all potential, yet assume grievance from pedants. In a job application, you want to carry close the recommendations-set of whoever that is will study it. Err on the aspect of conformity to the rule of thumb and also you're damned as a stuffy pedant, err on naturalness and also you've gotten your application rejected for this reason of your glaring lack of uncomplicated education. yet in case you incredibly elect the pastime you should have a quite reliable idea of that particular corporation's idea of conformity as against naturalness!
