What do psychologists/psychiatrists do?
I understand that a psychiatrists prescribes medication to those with mental illnesses.
And I understand that psychologists work with those who have mental illnesses.
My real question is do they work with people with down-syndrome? Also knows as "retards". Sorry if that was offensive. I don't really know how else to put it.
Update:Like, do psychologists/psychiatrists only deal with people with chronic depression, bipolar, ADD, ADHD, OCD, ect.? Or are there cases were they deal with people with down-syndrome and/or people with mental retardation?

Down Syndrome and Mental Retardation are actually two different things. While one suffering from either of these diseases may see a therapist or counselor, I don't know that every case would see a psychiatrist. I've known a few people with Down Syndrome and a few Retarded people, and I don't believe that they had any sort of regular therapy that I know of. Also people with Down Syndrome are generally a little more functional than people with mental retardation, however even retarded people can sometimes function on their own.
nope i think.and there is that un common kind of attitude of an mentally ill and a down syndrome i think.
down syndrome has no advantage in growing up.they stay the same i think.
and an ill one has an advantage in growing up like overcoming and coping mechanism i think so.
