why is my menstrual blood so dark?
i am 40 years old. I have never had a regular menstrual cycle. I have missed as much as 6 months at a time, I believe it is due to stress. I have not had a period in 3 months. ( I am not sexually active.) I was not concerned because as i said this happens frequently. my period started today. The blood is very dark, almost black. It also has a very foul odor. I cant get in to see my doctor till the 29th of this month. can anyone tell me what this might be?

It sounds like a heavy cycle and the odor is also a common side effect. I would not be too worried. You may want to check WedMD also.
That tends to happen sometimes when you're a heavy bleeder ans where a pad/tampon for too long. Once due to circumstances, i was forced to wear a pad for over 12 hours and when i finally got the chance to remove it, my blood was a very darkish brown and smelled foul. Probably go see that doctor just to make sure, but don't stress out. by your description it doesn't seem like anything unusual of fatal.
It might be that color because you have not had your period in three months, and the blood is probably very thick. As for the odor, I am not sure. Just make sure to bring all this up when you go to see him/her. Good luck!
