crackling/clicking noise (Astra Coupe)?
Hi ppl would just like to know if anyone has come across the problem i am encountering and what its likely to be.
Just as i pull away in 1st 2nd or reverse i get this crackling/clicking noise coming from behind the passenger front wheel. its also the same when i slow down in these gears and always at around the same speed.
looked behind the wheel and i can see the gearbox but thats about it!
Any ideas in what it could be?
also my gears go in fine and car drives normal but this loud noise is worrying me.
Thanks to anyone who replys
(My car is an Astra Coupe Turbo 2002)
Update:Sorted my castle nut was loose. i really appreciate everyone that took the time to answer. a big thanks to you all

I agree with one poster that it's hard to tell on the internet. What's cracking and popping to me, may be different to you.
First thought in my mind is where does your exhaust pipe run? Does it run on that side of the car? Could be a hole in the pipe and in 1st, 2nd and reverse, you would be running high revs that could account for it.
Second thing would be a CV joint. I've heard people say that CV joints just get worse but this is something that is potentially fatal, if it is a CV joint.
It also could be anything. When I was about 17, I was driving my car and getting a funny noise from a front wheel and it was hot. I called my father and he said it was probably a brake caliper that was stuck.
I made it to my aunt's house. We jacked it up, my cousin took hold of the wheel and it literally feel off in his hands. The bearing surrounding the spindle were at fault. It could have been a death trap.
Have this noise checked into ASAP. You don't want to become another statistic.
I agree with everyone it does sound like a CV joint. To check it out, go to an empty parking lot and turn the steering wheel all the way to the left and gun the accelerator, then repeat in the other direction. If the sound is exacerbated it is the CV joint(s).
Things like these are notoriously hard to diagnose over the internet with just a text description. Your best bet would be a mechanic.
However, if its making noise especially when turning, then it could be a failing CV axle.
It sounds like the CV joint .Does it get a bit worse as you go around corners. If it does it definitely is.
ticking maximum offen is a lifter or it needs oil or a oil replace coul duse heavier weight oil might want to attempt a small hose and placed it to ear and position the position sound is coming form and paintings it out to a closer element
sounds like C.V. joints in your front wheel, they make the clicking noise when they wear out. good luck.
Drive shaft/CV joint or track rod end failing. (Probably)
Nothing difficult to do, but get it done for safety reasons asap.
Have a look on here mate, these guys have helped me lots of times.
