How to set up remote security camera access?

I have a Netgear Smart Wizard Router model :WNR1000v2, and I have bought a kguard camera kit that allows me to view the footage from the cameras from a desktop or a laptop from anywhere I wish. The problem with this is that I do not know how to set up the port forwarding or the virtual server part necessary to make this happen. I know how to log into my router but after that I am lost.

In the instructions provided by the Kguard company they assume that you are an expert and expect you to just make it work. Unfortunately this is not the case for me or any other customer who has tried to do this themselves.

I have looked all over the net, called support, and even called some companies and offered them money to help me but with no luck.

I beg you to please walk me through this process like if I were a 5 year old and not assuming that I know anything more than how to follow directions.

  • In your router you need to setup a virtual server with the IP address of the camera e.i. 192.168.0.10

After that, you can setup the port forwarding, so let's say you want to use port 3388 to connect to the cam, on the port forwarding setup, you make all traffic going to port 3388 to connect to the virtual server 192.168.0.10 and when you try to connect to the cam from an external connection, you will need to go to your public IP address (www.whatsmyip.org) if you don't know it and then add the port at the end e.i. 202.196.75.69:3388 or https://202.196.75.69:3388/

  • understand that this is continually a competent theory to bare off your SSID broadcast too. oftentimes, the in uncomplicated words subject concerns I do is turn off the SSID broadcasting and enable MAC filtering - determining the desktops i could desire to prefer to connect with the aid of their MAC. I even have have been given right here upon there's no longer any extra something else that could desire to be achieved previous this for the main section. as quickly as you have a desperate hacker on your section attempting to confirm out what MACs youve have been given so he can edit his MAC to connect into your community, then you definitely have extra subjects to alter than router protection . . . oh yeah, be useful you supply your router a undeniable password to boot - many forget approximately approximately to change it from the producing facility default. Then any protection settings you have made could make a whip of distinction to boot.
