So my roommates and I like to have people over regularly and turn up the music a bit. Nothing outrageous, but we still get complaints to turn it down and don't want the issue to escalate.
I hear adding lots of extra carpeting, thick cloth wall hangings, etc. helps absorb sound, is this true?
Would rearranging furniture to create a barrier between the main party space and the front door significantly reduce noise heard in the hallway outside?

Unfortantly it is not the walls that the soundwaves bounce off
of it is the items in your place. The noise is absorbed by
carpet, furniture anything that is stuffed. Cardboard is said
to help but believe me it is pointless, same with egg cartons.
