Transfer Video onto iMOVIE?

I put a dvd into my computer. the video was made and edited already on a different computer. i want the footage on the dvd to go into my imovie. when i put the dvd on my computer, it comes up at "DVD PLAYER." and then it plays it... how can i transfer this footage onto imovie?

    Please make sure your video is compatible with iMovie. As I know, iMovie supports mp4 and mov video. You can follow this guide to convert your video to mp4 video for editing on iMovie. It works pretty well for me.
