How to travel from paris to amsterdam ?

I wish to go to Amsterdam from Paris on 09/11/2010. Have a few questions.

1) How much time does it take in a train ?

2) What is the cheapest fare available ?

3) Is it possible to go to Amsterdam, take a half a day city tour or something and come back to Paris the same evening ?

4) If answer to above is yes, what is the best option available ?

5) Where do you get the famous cannabis mugs in amsterdam apart from Walletjes or Rosse Buur.

  • 1) The Thalys train from Paris Nord to Amsterdam Centraal takes 3 hours and 18 minutes

    2) Promotion fees in 2nd class for early booking start at € 35.00 one-way.

    3) It is possible however I would not consider it; you should at least stay for a night (based on answer 4 [you miss Amsterdam's night life] and question 5)

    4) the first train leaves Paris at 06:25 to reach Amsterdam at 09:43; the last train leaves Amsterdam at 19:16 to reach Paris at 22:35 [at 20:16 on Sundays]

    5) sorry, no idea

  • Visit French Rail's website, www.sncf.com, and use the trip planner to check timetables and fares. The Thalys is the high-speed international express train that links Paris, Bruxelles, Köln and Amsterdam. It is a fantastic train. The Thalys company also has its own website. Google it to find out what its URL is. The Thalys also offers discounted advance-purchase tickets, so if you book far enough before your departure, you can find good fares. However speedy the train is, it is still a long distance so you will definitely want to spend more than just half a day in vibrant, exciting Amsterdam. In fact, the fabulous Rijksmuseum itself is so comprehensive you can spend almost a while day just exploring it!
