How do you solve this Algebra problem?
A company bakes cupcakes and makes fudge. It takes 8 minutes to cook cupcakes and 12 minutes to cook fudge. The company bakes x cupcakes and y fudge in 730 minutes. Write an equation in standard form to model the scenario. Change the equation to slope-intercept form.
Update:I thought you were supposed to divide the 730 too...
Comments
8x + 12y = 730
Slope intercept would be:
Y= -3/4 x + 730
Well, let's say:
x=number of cupcakes
y= number of fudge
The standard form would be
8x+12y=730
because it takes 8 mins. for cupcakes, 12 mins. for fudge. It's hard to explain but if you look at it long enough, it makes sense.
Now, slope-intercept.
First, subtract each side by 8x.
12y = -8x+730
You can't have 12y, only plain y. So what do you do? Divide by 12.
y = -8/12x + 60 5/6
Simplify
y = -2/3x + 365/6
Hope I helped
