Algebra 1 Polynomial help?

I'm stuck on this question...

Could I get help and be shown the steps please?

Simplify the following Polynomial.

(5a-9) - (-8b-1) - (-7a+4b)

Any help appreciated

  • A minus outside parentheses changes all the signs inside so do that first

    5a - 9 + 8b + 1 + 7a - 4b

    then combine like terms

    12a + 4b - 8

  • First, you must do the distributive property. In front of each of the minus signs outside of the parentheses is an understood one. You must distribute this to the numers in the parentheses to the right of it first.....

    (5a-9)-1(-8b-1)-1(-7a+4b)

5a-9+8b+1+7a-4b ......Which gets rid of the parentheses, and then you just combine like terms....

    -8+12a+4b and then youre done!!!

    Hope i helped!!!!!
