How does traumas effect people?

For example, I hear all the time that when a girl get raped or molested as a child, she usually becomes very promiscuous in her teens & adult life. Wouldn't something like that make her afraid to have sex later in life? Can someone explain to me how traumas effect the brain?

  • It depends.

I know someone who got raped, and she actually never wanted to experience sex again.

    People deal with them differently.

I've been through some socially traumatic situations, and all it does is push me forward, even though certain memories are still there.

Maybe the magnitude of things can trigger different reactions with others.

And to answer your question's example, probably because that's the only way she could have felt it was her place in life, she thinks of herself as undeserving, so she treats her body as such.
