Mosque "near" ground zero?

I heard someone mention on this forum that it is not actually being built, but being EXPANDED from its current location into the Burlington Coat Factory that is next to it... I was hoping someone could give me the source of this information.

  • I don't know about the coat factory, but the mslims have been meeting there for a long time, and they just want to expand the facility to be more of a fun community center with a pool and activity center. And I was also told the location is actually 3 blocks away from ground zero. I can understand why people would not want a mosque anywhere in NYC. But honestly, we need to be fair and abide by the constitution which allows us all religious freedom, and not stoop to the level of other countries who persecute those whose religious beliefs are aggainst the percieved norm. This is America, where all are free, not just those we preferr.

  • I am all for religious freedom that is what this country was founded on. I do object to this mosque being so close to ground zero. Too many people were affected by 9/11 and I think out of respect for the almost three thousand innocents who lost their lives and many thousand more family members affected they should not go forward with this building. I am not saying they shouldn't be able to build their mosque just that they show respect and not build it in that location. No matter what you will never change the minds of people that suffered a loss. 68% of the people do not think this mosque should be opened at this location doesn't what the people want make any difference? You would think that with all the current hatred for zealot muslims they could be a little more sensitive to the pain of 9/11 survivor's and their families. Most New Yorkers will never get over the pictures of the muslims dancing in the streets after the world trade center came down. These were plastered all over the newspapers and on television. You will never regain the confidence of the people unless you show some respect and compassion for the people who lost family at ground zero.

  • @ gnosis

to be more of a fun community center

More fun than what? The mosk that is already there?

  • It was in the National Inquirer. The friend who heard it from a friend who's friends with his sister's best friend's mother's father told me it was there.
