computer slows down! ARGH!!?

So i have an Hp, intel pentium d duo processor with 2 gb ram media center. I also have symantec norton antivirus (360 version). Anyways sometimes it works well, but sometimes when i just leave it, it starts to think alot ( the inside makes these annoying sounds which make me believe its thinking), and it takes me a while to get my messenger or internet programs to open. Sometimes i even get background processing or sumthing on my norton says so... i would really appreciate some help.....

  • I would recommend that you upgrade your processor, as it doesn't seem to be strong enough for the programs that you're running, due to your notes of the system making lots of noise and being extremely slow. If you want to buy a new processor, you can find more information at http://www.intel.com/ Then again, it could be that your anti-virus is slowing things down considerably, so before you do anything, try to disable your anti-virus, then try and see if it works much faster.

  • first off. i don't like norton (because unless you know what your doing and how to turn off or limit a bunch of it's options, it will hog your computer)

secondly, you probably haven't cleaned your pc lately. i suggest going to http://www.download.com/ and getting a program called ccleaner (crap cleaner for short) and first running everything that that can do on your pc, and let it clean it don't just analyze, actually run it and let it delete bad files. ALSO, try getting a defrag program from that same website, look for a popular one, the one on your computer is so basic and really slow, it isn't nearly as good or efficient. run this program too, and let it take its time, it will take a while especially if you've never done it or not for a long time.

THIRDly,,... lol sorry had to do this, its not a pentium d duo, its a pentium d dual. lol yes there is a big difference, because pentium isn't the same as duo a.k.a. core 2 duo or core duo.

best of luck though! message me if you need any more help, i love working on computers.
