Car audio system upgrade?

I have a 2000 honda accord ex v6 and I'm looking to upgrade the sound system. What's the maximum watts I can have combined through my speakers without using amps? Is there any limit before damaging things? I have two amplifiers so getting them isn't an issue. At what point(watts throughout speakers) do I actually NEED to use them?

    With stock speakers it's usually about 5-12w rms and 25-30w peak. I'm not all sure what you mean, but with stock you can't really do much.
