96 HONDA ACCORD LX -O2 SENSOR PROBLEM?

My check engine light came on, and i used my scanner and the code came up as: Sensor heater circuit malfunction bank 1 sensor 1.

Im looking to get this fixed and trying to buy the part online, but every place i look is giving me a different type of O2 sensor, so im not sure what to buy, or even where this sensor is located on the car.

So if you can please help by telling me exactly what sensor to buy or even if i can repair this without buying a new one, it would be greatly appreciated. Thank you

  • Your O2 sensor in bank one is usually the one towards the front of the engine located inside or closest to the exhaust manifold. I would strongly recommend buying one from the dealership however. It may cost more but in the long run you'll save yourself alot of headaches. It will perform better and last longer...good luck

  • If it was a M/T Accord, or if it was an 04 with a Carfax, I would definitely recommend that one, but with the transmission issues already stated, and the lack of a carfax (sounds very fishy, every used car has some sort of report, and if they can get it for the Civic its very strange that they wont for the Accord, especially with the tranny issue) is enough reason to stay away from that particular Accord. PS I own a 2005 Accord EX V-6 coupe with the 6 speed manual and Navi unit. I absolutely love it. It has plenty of power for any daily needs, interior space and luxury is great (backseat not as nice as a sedan, but much more comfy than most coupes) with a good set of snow tires it handles Maine winters just as well as my old Subaru did, and my car currently has 160,000 miles on it, with brakes being the most costly maintenance so far!!!

  • That sensor is the "Upstream" sensor. It's screwed into the cast iron part of the exhaust. An O2 sensor socket and 1/2" drive breaker bar is needed to remove it.Go to the site below.I found a "denso" brand sensor for $40.89 for your car.If you buy at autoparts store you will spend over $100.

Don't screw up the removal! It will snap off and you'll be screwed.

  • Brands dont matter on the o2 sensors. However be sure you know how to change it.
