Press release or queue?

My friend wants me to help get her some publicity for her small business. Is it better to submit a press release to media outlets or to put together a queue saying I will write the story and send it to editors?

  • Being in marketing, I'm not sure that a press release is how I would publicize a small business unless the business has something truly noteworthy to release to the media.

However, given your two options, I would suggest the press release. You can send them out quickly and easily, blanketing an area and distributing to as many media outlets as possible if you so choose. Also, it doesn't require any work on the editor's part, meaning they don't have to contact you if they don't want to. As I'm sure you know, editors are usually extremely busy and they want to be able to review material as quickly as possible.

With the queue, if editors feel like they have to correspond with you too much and wait for the story, they may lose interest or they may not contact you at all. At least with the press release, if something catches their attention and they need more information, they always have the option of contacting you or the business.

PS - I've included a link below which will provide you with more information on the topics discussed above.

    Good Luck!

  • Send a press release to related media outlets....Who, what, why, where and when. I see your a writer how wonderful. If you get into PR email me, as my questions asking about a PR person lasted all of 10 minutes on Yahoo Answers.
