Does a cord exist to hook up a TV with a "S port" to my laptop (no S-port)?
I want to connect my Dell Inspiron 1545 laptop (new in January) to my old TV so that I can watch movies playing on my computer on my TV (NOT a HD set).
TV has only 2 possible ways to connect:
1. S-port
2. RCA (Red, Yellow, White) port
(note: TV is not high definition)
Laptop has ONLY 2 possible connectors:
1. 15 pin D-sub
2. USB port
Therefore, do any of these possible cord combinations exist:
1. S-port to 15 pin D-sub
2. S-port to USB port
3. RCA to 15 pin D-sub
4. RCA to USB port
Geek Squad was useless on this, as were my internet searches. Radio Shack said it was possible to that it would cost about $125.
Update:I have seen these adapters which John speaks of but they are not LONG ENOUGH to connect my laptop to my TV. Need about a foot.

Since laptop only has VGA, you need a VGA to composite video (RCA yellow) CONVERTER.

A simple cable adapter won't work because VGA signal from laptop is different from composite video signal of analog TV. Radio Shack was right but their converter is more expensive. Probably it comes with a bundle of cables.
virtually in no way - and are you constructive the port sends television into your workstation? it relatively is a lot extra probably it relatively is to deliver your reveal reveal out to the television, like enjoying a DVD or a downloaded action picture on the better reveal. The output of the cable outlet is a coded sign that must be fed to a cable field that the two untangles the numerous channels yet in addition decodes the secure video clips etc. Then the field outputs a single single channel to the television. (some television's will untangle the cable channels, yet no longer teach the coded stuff.) no count in case you will get television onto your workstation will count a great deal on the suitable enter on your workstation and the suitable output of the cable field - if there is one. and you ought to nevertheless decide on a tuner.
You can use a vga to s video cable, which means the TV set will serve as a secondary display for the laptop. I presume your laptop has vga out capability.
In all my years of Custom AV Work, we usually had to use a combination of "little black boxes" and cables to make this happen.
However, due to technology advances, there now is such a cable to suit your desired result. Hope this helps the cause.
The $125 price quote is normal, however if you REALLY know how to search what your looking for then it goes way down.
