USB hard drive to ATA desktop drive?
I have found an IBM portable 40gb USB 2.0 Hard Disk Drive. I have already removed the hard drive inside. It is a Fujitsu MHT2040AT. I have already bought an adapter to connect this drive to my computer, but for some reason, the BIOS System Setup recognizes it as "Unknown Drive" and i can't do anything with it. ¿How do i make the drive usable??
Update:I currently have 2 other hard drives in my computer, one SATA and one IDE. I want to use this drive for Vista

If the bios isn't detecting it, then it may have issues (assuming you have cabled it up properly.
If repeatedly trying to get it to detect doesn't work, try forcing the settings in (specify to the bios the number of heads/cylinders/etc), and see what happens.
If that doesn't work, try the Clear ESCD setting in the bios, and reboot.
If that doesn't work, put it back in the usb case and use it as a usb drive
Why would you remove the HDD from the USB casing?? Why not just use it as a USB hard drive? Internal Hard Drives are so cheap i dont see a reason to do this at all.
Make sure that you have your jumper (i.e. the little plastic thingy connecting two of a series of useless pins on the side of the hard drive) set to slave (if you want it just for storage purposes) or master (if you want it to be your main hard drive).
Maybe try creating a primary partition first then format. Paragon or partition magic is good. Also you can use the fdisk command. Fujitsu MHT2040AT isn't that a laptop hard drive?

You need to format the drive, also be sure you make it the slave drive if it will be sharing the controller with another device
