Irregular periods after depo provera?
Hi
My last injection was 4th May 07, as hubby and I are ttc #1. Just wondering, can anyone shed any light on when my periods should be regular again? My periods started beginning of Jan 08, but I have been getting them every 2 weeks - every other saturday without fail! Anyone experienced this, and if so, when should my body sort itself out? Getting very fed up now! Will depo still be in my system? Any advice will be very much appreciated. Seems to be taking forever to conceive....!
Thanks

Hi
My last injection was 4th May 07, as hubby and I are ttc #1. Just wondering, can anyone shed any light on when my periods should be regular again? My periods started beginning of Jan 08, but I have been getting them every 2 weeks - every other saturday without fail! Anyone experienced this, and...
My last injection was May 2005...we've been TTC ever since.
My periods started in Jan 06 and were pretty regular, but I did have a few wonky months...like having bleeds 2 weeks apart or O'ing within a week of AF even after having normal O times (CD13-15). My periods are very regular now (28-29 days without fail) and I am ovulating, but not sure when I started.
It is in the depo pamphlet that it can take up to 2 years to leave your system, but I've heard of it lasting longer than that. Hopefully you'll be straightened out sooner rather than later.
Good luck.

Depo is a horrible form of birth control, I was on it for a year and I stopped bleeding after 6 months. When I stopped I did not get a period or ovulate for at least 3-5 months, many women become infertile from depo and never begin ovulating again. If you want to know if you are ovulating you can use the rhythm method or you can wait for two normal cycles and take ovulation tests.
I was on the depo and my husband and i decided we wanted to start trying for a baby. I talked to my GP who advised it could take up to 12 months for the depo to come out of my system so was told we would have to wait and see.
My last injection was due on the 4th Sept 2007, which I didnt go for. I then found out at the end of Oct I was pregnant & that I conceived on the 29th Sept, during this time I had not had a period. I think it is different for everyone but the docs do advise as mentioned previously that it can take up to 12 months for the body to readjust. It all depends on how long you were on it for as well. I was on the injection for 5 years so I consider myself very lucky that everything happened so quickly. Give it a couple more months if you still havent conceived go and speak to your GP.
Good luck x
Depo can take anything up to 2 years to leave the system and it just depends on the person as to when their cycle returns back to normal. I had 1 shot before TTC and it took 7 months to concieve but then my sister had 1 shot and it took her 2 years to concieve #2, she is currently TTC#3 and had her last depo shot in Aug07 and got her periods back 3 months ago but they arnt regular. Give it alittle more time if not then go to your doc and see if they can give you something to regulate them.
Goodluck.
Although you can have a period within days after coming off the Depo it can take ages to get it totally out of your system. Ask your GP for advice and see what they say?
I came off the depo in March 07.
I finally started bleeding on 3rd Jan 08, and well, waiting for it to stop! I'm not bleeding heavy, but hell it's annoying.
My GP told me it can take 18 mnths - 2yrs for it to be completely out of your system. Shame they don't tell you this wehn you have it!
Good Luck

I had this same problem and finally became pregnant 2 years after finishing the injections. My periods returned to normal after about 18 months. Good luck x
