Can i transfer my program files from C: to D:?

I have installed win xp on C:. And all the programs are also in that drive. Now, i want to transfer program files to D: and keep the C: only for os. Is it possible. Will my programs work if i transfer them to D : and create new shortcut for them?

  • Nope, you cannot move programs just by copying and pasting from the C:/Program Files folder to your D: drive.

    It breaks the application because the Windows registry will no longer be able to find the program where it was once installed.

    To move them, you actually need to uninstall them and then reinstall them again to the correct destination.

  • No it will mess up the program as the registry won't know where to find the program so you will have to Uninstall and Reinstall to your D: drive assuming it is a partition of your hard drive not a CD/DVD/BD Drive.
