1979 Ford F150 Carb Problem?

I have a 1979 Ford F150 and i had my mechanic adjust the electric choke so that it the motor idles up when its cold then back to slow idle when its warmed up. Okay, it worked for one day now its not idling up anymore like it should. He said you have to engage the choke, how do you do that exactly? im confused bout that, and is there any screws i can play with to help it or make small adjustments myself? thank you

  • Welcome to life before fuel injection. When the engine is cold press the gas pedal down about half way and release it. This pumps a small amount of fuel directly into the carb throat and releases the catch on the choke arm so the choke can close. The choke will be held closed until the engine warms up a bit. Depending on which carb is on your truck you may have to kick the gas pedal slightly to get it to release or it may open gradually as the engine warms up. I assume your mechanic has it set properly as they are a very simple system.
