Which FPS games do you consider too generic?
I really don't like COD games. They began to feel stale back in WW2 and after a hiatus from gaming. I returned to play MW2-3 which felt no different.
BQ: Which FPS do you feel are most innovative & were able to stand out in the Genre. (Not story or gfx wise but gameplay) *cough* borderlands *cough*

I agree with you about CoD. They get churned out so regularly that they're really becoming generic. It's like they're just not interested in doing anything new. I've tried them and I just don't get the appeal.
As far as FPS games that stand out to me, I'd say Borderlands 1 & 2. I got Borderlands a week after it was released and instantly fell in love with it. It just felt so fresh and different, and Borderlands 2 was even better for me. Also Bioshock, because I love the storyline and, again, it really is its own game. There's nothing else out there like it.
bio shock 2 is great gameplay wise.
far cry 3 gives more options in how to tackle your objective.
I'm assuming you mean both borderlands 1 and 2, but just incase 2 is far better.
stealth games are good to, dues ex and dishonored (haven't played the latter).

did i really need to even say that though? without it i doubt fps games would be where they are today.
