Cable does not connect?

My computer seems to have some problem connecting to cable. When connected to my laptop, the cable works. What are the possible problems with my desktop and how should I troubleshoot it.

  • theres a whole lot of things that could be wrong with the desktop, you will have to describe the problem in more detail.

  • I'm assuming you have broadband, either dsl or cable, and you are using an ethernet cable for access. I'm also assuming you have a modem, but not a router, and that you usually have the ethernet cable connected to the laptop. If you unplug the ethernet from the laptop and plug it into the desktop, you MUST reset the modem first.

Anytime you change the connection, you need to power down the modem, and then power it up.

If you have a router, then you shouldn't be having the problem, and it would help if you would repost with your type of internet provider, and the equipment you use, and whether your internet connection to the computer is wired or wireless.

  • Go to control panel>internet options> connection. Make sure it is set for LAN setting. If not click on the Setup tab. This will bring up a connection wizard.

  • What kind of pc do you have? Make sure you have your Ethernet drivers installed on the PC. Without the drivers there is no way it would be able to connect.

Check the manufacturers web site for the drivers, if its a custom pc. Check the Motherboard Manufacturers web site.

  • try to buy a bridge and maybe the inter net connection is offline or try to restart your whole computer
