on the rear of the transmission. more easily accessed from underneath
I'm a Ford tech just like yugie and a few others.... The contours had pretty good engine and transmissions towards the end but wiring and electrical in general were all of a Ford of Europe design that was junk and some older Contours we have actually recommended customers scrap them then try to fix them due to cost of replacing the wiring. (Earlier Contours actually had a recall on the wiring harness.. can we say $1000 excluding labor?(which out of the recall we charged upwards of $900 due to the many hours (and some cars it was closer to a day and a half to two days to do?) The taurus, if kept up are real good cars. they are cheap because Ford sold many of them to fleets and the fleets got rid of them after a certain time so there are many on the used car market due to it. Some have had some issues with engine and transmissions on them so I'd recommend any one you are interested in to have a mechanic look at, but my favorites from that year are the 3.0 4 valve engines. Those are a lot better quality I find (engine and transmission are different), have more power and have less problems than the cheaper 3.0 2 valve or vulcan motor.
