Algebra math problem(s).................?
So there was this problem in my math homework and my teacher said that it was wrong and when I reworked it I still got the same answer. What I am doing wrong.
The problem is this:
Use substitution or elimination to solve for X and Y.
The two equations are:
Y=25X+50 and Y=10X+200.
Please show my work so I can figure it out. Thanks!
Comments
X = (y-50)/25
so
Y = 10 * (y-50)/25 + 200
Y = 10*Y/25 -20 + 200
Y * (1 - 10/25) = 180
.6 * Y = 180
Y = 300
X = 10
or more simply
or
25x + 50 = 10x + 200
15x = 150
x = 10
Y = 300
10x+200=25x+50
10x+150=25x
150=15x
x=10
Y=25(10)+50
Y=250+50
Y=300
Y=10(10)+200
Y=100+200
Y=300
25x + 50 = 10x + 200
25x = 10x + 150
15x = 150
X = 10
Plug that into either equation...I'll do the 1st one...
Y = 25(10) + 50
Y = 300
