Photoshop or Adobe Illustrator?

So, I've recently taken up drawing and photography and I need a program that will help me successfully edit both of these, for the photo's enhancing and basic editing would be nice and for the drawings I want them to still look hand drawn as much as possible but with photoshop coloring, blending etc. Any suggestions would be great! (Also what photoshop version?)

  • I would recommend Photoshop, and I actually have used both programs. I've been using Photoshop for over 5 years now, and I have no complaints. Nothing wrong with Illustrator, I just prefer Photoshop.

  • Basically, Photoshop is for photo editing with a little bit of vector drawing abilities, and Illustrator is for vector drawing with a little bit of photo editing abilities.

As a designer, I have both and I'm glad I do. But if money is an issue and you can only get one of them, I would recommend Photoshop. I have found it to be a little easier for doing both.

The version of Photoshop really depends on the amount of money you want to spend, and the capabilities of your computer. You don't want to get a really new version like CS5 or CS5.5 if your computer is old and can't handle the program. Check the specs on the product and compare them to the specs on the machine to make sure.

  • Hi...

Illustrator is for drawing, you can buy a pen tablet so that you can draw with a pen instead of mouse. This is vector basis which mean the image won't be pixelated

Photoshop is for editing images, it will caused pixalated.

Any version will do, but you can consider the Creative Suite 4, the higher the version, it will offer more compatibility for latest camera but you always can download the driver from Adobe website. And it will be packed with more features.

  • Serious artists often get both. The two programs are fundamentally different, but they can be used together to great effect. That's why they call it "Creative Suite". Design Standard is the lowest priced suite:

You can only get the latest version in stores, so don't worry about that. Just make sure your computer meets all the system requirements.
