How do you do this Algebra problem?

The sum of two numbers is 18. The sum of their squares is 164. What are the numbers?

~My brother is studying and I was trying to help, but I just can't remember how to do this kind.

    just make a system of equations:

    x+y=18

    X^2 + y^2= 164

    slove for x or y on the first equation, then plug it in the second eqaution and solve.

    the number is 10 and 8 since ten times ten is 100 and 8 times 8 is 64 add them and u get 164
