Um...help?.... I have a racist dog...Iam serious?
I have a fairly large dog thats part Pit Bull and part Bassett Hound. I know that sounds strange but hes a cutie. My problem is that I got him from a black man when he was about a month or so old. He was a friend of my husbands and I didn;t want him but he had a bloody eye.....His friend had been whipping his a*ss. Well hes grown now hes almost 3 and he HATES black people. WE have black friends and ive brought them over to try to get ruckus(the dog) to know its ok that they wont hurt him. But he 's not having it he wants to maul them. I cant take him for walks or to the park.....What do i do? any suggestions? He's a very well behaved dog, hes not mean otherwise, hes very protective of the family. He minds me well. I know for a fact he would never hurt us. but he sees a plack person even a mixed person its like he "knows".Iam afraid hes really gonna hurt someone someday How do i break him of this?

First, although different people have different opinions, I don't believe puppies should be taken away from their mothers and littermates to go to a new home until they are least seven weeks old, but eight or nine is more ideal. So, it sounds as if, on top of the stress of being taken away from his mother early, your dog had a bad experience and was abused by a black person. Puppies are incredibly impressionable and it could have been traumatic enough that he now associates all black people with being abused.
It's true that some dogs, when fearful, may be provoked to bite. They aren't doing it to be mean or aggressive, but to defend themself from what they perceive to be a threat to themselves. These same dogs may be the most loving family members when the 'threat' isn't around. This is a very serious issue and one that should be resolved as soon as possible. If it's not resolved, worst case scenario is that it escalates and gets worse and the best case scenario is that the situation doesn't change. Neither is a good option since you want to be able to enjoy your dog in different situations and know you can trust him around everyone, not just your family.
Since it sounds like you've been trying to help him get over his fears and it hasn't been working, I would recommend contacting a dog trainer in your area. You can talk to your vet about the problem and ask for a recommendation, they can probably point you in the right direction. Good luck and don't give up on him. It can be a slow process to rehabilitate an abused animal, but it'll be worth it in the end, and I'm sure he'll appreciate being able to get over his fears.
Quite a few dogs seem to have this problem. It doesn't necessarily stem from abuse, but rather that the dog doesn't see enough people of different races. If the only black people he sees are afraid of him, that bolsters his confidence and makes him more secure about attacking them. Deliverymen can actually attack train your dog without meaning to - they come to your house, challenge the dog by knocking on the door, and then appear to "run away" when the dog barks (from the dog's point of view).
I'd get your black friends to meet you for a fun walk outside your house as often as possible. (Meeting inside the house makes the dog more protective and aggressive.) Greet your friend warmly and just start walking side by side. If the dog growls or snarls, just give him a tug on the lead and tell him firmly to knock it off. Have a nice conversation as you walk so the dog will learn that your friend is not a threat and this should gradually lessen his aggression toward them. Ask your friends to act like thy're not afraid, even if they are. Nervous behavior will provoke the dogs' aggression. When he's improving, have your friends meet at the house - keep your dog on a leash so you can control his behavior. Also, you should be doing a LOT of obedience training - you should be in charge. Your dog should not be telling you who is allowed in your house.
A dog will be defensive against anyone he feels in danger of - Our dog Koshi ( he ran away) was terrified of children and would bark constantly at them like he was scared of them - it was all because my step-son who was 9 at the time would beat him and terrorize him -we didn't know he was doing this to the dog until we found cuts on him - and we caught the boy hitting him with a stick we grounded the boy for that !! Anyway we tried & tried to get the dog to feel ok around kids and it just never worked we had to send the dog over to my brother inlaws and the dog ran away - I guess for Koshi (the dog ) it was too late -he was already damaged mentally (LOL!!) or whatever -It seems like once animals develope a pattern or temperment its pretty much permanate - but talk to you Vet about his behavior and see what he says or reccomends
My dog is the same way and I'm not going to mention you picture but i never could figure it out way the dog was like except.
Unless there's an odor there maybe the (Do) they use in their hair and I'm not going to mention your picture i wish that dog of mine would stop that.
I know no black person never hit my dog so really to me I'm in a guessing game to. I'm not going to mention your picture, but my daughter loves that dog so maybe we can work things out.
Where she will not bite anyone and be their friends, and I'm not going to mention your picture. Maybe there's some dog trainer that can back the habit.*
i can not blame the dog! if any person hit me did would be ready to take it out on any person of that color. i have nothing against any nationality. i had a dog he was kinda the same as yours he barked at one guy every time the man spoke. my dog would eat bowling balls no joke but sadly he died early this last winter he was chow and golden retriever my pal I've seen him kick many a dogs butt for sniffing at my kids wrong!!!
canines at the instant are not colorblind! (as different solutions declare) technological information is unsure in simple terms what colorations they see yet a minimum of they understand that. And besides, did you adult males ever have hassle telling the black persons from the white ones interior the unique (black and white) version of long gone with the Wind? "Racism" isn't that uncommon in canines yet no one is conscious why for specific. some canines are uncomfortable with black Labradors, as an occasion, others bark at black human beings. Black faces make it extra good to examine the expression in case you at the instant are not used to it. Black canines may well be at a actual downside in social circumstances for this reason - and it extremely is the reason wolves and a super type of canines have facial markings that spotlight significant aspects of the face for communication. So in keeping with threat this interprets to human beings, too, enormously on account that canines have extremely undesirable eyesight. some canines do in contrast to different canines of a particular breed (despite if black or another colorations), and lower back, in keeping with threat this translate to those who look distinctive from those they grew up with. yet distinctive cultures even have distinctive eating conduct = physique smell. physique smell is likewise touching directly to genetics. this might properly be a piece of the situation, too. it is demanding to declare. Socialization and counter-conditioning are significant to alleviate the undertaking.
Maybe he had a bad experience with black people. I would not punish him because he maybe be acting like that out of fear. Talk 2 a trainer and they can really help u.
My dog acted similar to your..at first she HATED our black mailman. I left treats for him to give her and she barks at him now becuase he "throws the ball" playing with her.
Dogs have a very KEEN sense of smell..maybe he smells something that reminds him of his previous abuser. For your protection and your dogs happiness consult a dog trainer..ask your vet to recommend one.
dont worry my dog is the same way.the dogs act like that because he was raised around white people.all you do is have a black man sit on your couch and let the dog approch him\her dont let them make any fast movement until the dog gets used to them.
I know most people think this is stupid but i also think my dog is racist. She never attacks anything but if i bring my russian friends in the house she barks and watches them until they leave
