Natural Black Hairstyles?!?

hello, l'm 14 and a light skinned black person. l currently have natural hair with no perm, no grease or anything in my hair and totally clueless on what to do with it. l'm sick of the perms because its too painful and my hair seriously does not take to them. my last perm, l left it on for 40 minutes and it only kept my hair noticeably straight for 3 weeks. l had a weave for the majority of my 8th grade year and just got it out last week (thank god!!!)

is there anything at all l can do with this crappy hair? ln my opinion, l'm too light for afro-like hairstyles, l don't look good with home-relaxed hair and can't afford salons, and l don't know what do to at all. my last resort is to sulk over it and come here for some advice on what to do.

Are there any kinds of simple, healthy black hairstyles that will help my hair grow to at least to my shoulders? l'm going for any nice looking style that l can wear through my upcoming high school life.

Update:

and please...don't tell me l need another weave. it was pure HELL for me. l highly despise weaves.

  • Umm...I think you are pretty much screwed hun. If God messed you up by giving you light skin and afro hair "that doesn't match" then I don't know what to tell you.

On a serious note, learn to love the hair that comes out of your scalp. Light and Dark skinned people have afros and they look beautiful with them because this is what they were meant to look like. Try taking care of your natural hair and learn different natural styles like twists, twist outs, braids, braid outs, afros, wash and gos, bantu knots, cornrows, etc. Research on natural hair blogs and youtube videos and maybe by the exposure you see of light and dark and medium skinned Black women embracing their kinky, curly, coily, beautiful afros, you might too.

I do give you props for not wanting to have a relaxer or weave at 14.
