I've not done it but am considering doing it in the future, so I have done lots of research on this. Donating eggs is not a simple process. It requires a complete and extensive medical history on you and and your entire family, including grandparents. They need to be sure of any genetic illness that may run in your family. You have to be at a healthy weight for your height, and a non smoker. Most clinics prefer a college degree as well, but not always. Part of it is based on looks as well because couples like to chose a woman that have similar features. Some clinics don't show the couple photos of the donor and the clinic picks the donor themselves. Once you sign up to pre-qualify you have to wait for an agency to pick you, and then you have to wait for a couple to chose you. It can happen right away or not at all. The process of donating eggs is a ton of work. You also have to go through a psychological evaluation and a meeting with a mental heath professional to run through the emotions of the donation process. You have to inject yourself with fertility meds everyday and have early morning daily dr appointments. The meds stimulate your ovaries to produce a lot of eggs, then they extract them. There are side effects that come along with the injections, for some women they are mild, for some it is a bit worse.
You have to be ok with a child out there having your genetic material that you may never know. There's a lot more emotion in the process then people think. It is wonderful to help couple make their dreams come true. But it is important to understand the emotions and joys involved with the process. Some women do it for the money, but the money is just really an added bonus compared to being able to help a couple fulfill their dream, and knowing that you are the person to make those dreams a reality. It's a beautiful thing. Good luck to you!
My friend did it.She said the drugs gave her mood swings.Ive considered it as well, but i hear more donors get turned away than excepted.
Just do whatever you feel most comfortable with... If it's not feeling right in your heart then stop...
