How does Fraps effect FPS?

I'm thinking about using it for Oblivion and some other games but I'm worried that it'll negatively affect my frame rate. I don't have a great computer and I get lag in any game if I don't use low to mild settings. I'm just wondering how much Fraps (used for taking pictures and videos in games) slows down gameplay.

Update:

Any suggestions/tips about the program?

  • Well, I ran it just fine on an old Pentium 4 CPU 3.40 GHz, 2 GB RAM, Nvidia Geforce 7600 GS Video Card, and WinXP Pro.

If you already own it just try it. If not, try to rent/borrow it, for cost too much to take chances (if you rent/borrow, don't forget to uninstall it BEFORE you return the disk). Obviously, the better the computer, the better it will run.
