  • Well, I'm a girl, and I always enjoy a good romance... you're probably not like that seeing as you're a boy. However, I love anything from Charlotte Bronte or Edith Wharton.

Jane Eyre by Charlotte Bronte is a love story about a woman's journey through her own life, from her youth to her adulthood. It's sort of like the ultimate female adventure book.

The House of Mirth by Edith Wharton is a surprisingly depressing novel on the doings of a woman in early 20th century New York City. The ending is amazing and really sad.

Vanity Fair by Thackeray is a 800 page novel that is really long and tedious but actually kinda good. It's about the superficiality of society.

I know it's girly stuff but it's really good. =(

  • For classics, try Jane Eyre by Charlotte Bronte and Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen.

For more modern ones, try The Twilight Series by Stephanie Meyer, and the Gemma Doyle Series by Libba Bray.

It's really great that you like to read and are making a summer reading list. Most kids won't even read in school for an assignment!

    Happy reading!

  • Wow! You're an avid reader. I would recommend reading the Three Musketeers by Alexandre Dumas. It was my favorite book as a kid. Also try, The Man with the Iron Mask and The Count of Monte Cristo. They're all great adventure books.

  • Do you like nonfiction? "Ibn al-Haytham: First Scientist" tells the fascinating, true story of a medieval Muslim scholar who overcame bouts of mental illness to develop the scientific method two hundred years before the Europeans learned of it—by reading his books. It was just chosen by California Readers to be part of the 2008 California Collection. You can find reviews of the book and a sample chapter at http://www.ibnalhaytham.net/

  • - 'The Iliad' by Homer = an Ancient Greek classics, about the Trojan War its BRILLIANT! The sequel is called 'The Odyssey', about Odysseus' journey home from the war, its also BRILLIANT! Both have fantasy elements, like gods/goddesses, mythical creatures, battles, romance, and are really good reads.

    - 'Interview with the Vampire' by Anne Rice (and the rest of the Anne Rice vampire series) all really good gripping reads!

    - 'Labyrinth' by Kate Mosse

  • Watership Down, by Richard Adams

The Lord of the Flies, by William Golding

The Chronicles of Narnia, by Lewis Carrol

The Lord of the Rings, by J.R.R. Tolkien
