Is this normal for a car alarm system?

This is the first time I ever had a car with an alarm and I want to know why there is a flashing light on my dashboard after I came home tonight? I may have pressed the alarm on my key chain by accident because the alarm went off briefly and I placed my key back into the ignition. This is when the LED light on the dash started to flash. Is it possible I didn't get out of my car fast enough? (read something about this). The light wasn't flashing before (never in the past week since I've owned the car). Will my battery die? I can't do too much testing tonight because it's late..what is going on? How do I turn the flashing off?

P.S. this is a '96 Honda Accord.

  • don't worry about it , it tells thieves that your car is alarmed.it wont kill your battery.

  • Yes what happens there is a delay on the alarm. When the alarm is set the light flashes..The light wont kill your battery as it takes very little power.

Without knowing what system you have I cannot help too much. A local car alarm specialist might check it over for you at very little cost.
