Computer is slow, clock also slows down?
I have toshiba satellite, m45-s165, i have 1.5gig memory. Yes honestly I do use alot of applications and it did slow down. but I can not be using any applications and it slows it down, curser freezes. I have to control/alt/delete to bring task manager up and sometimes that don't do nothing. I try hard boot it and it won't let me, going the extra step to have to take out the battery. I downloaded registry easy and ran scan came up with like 3,000 errors, I run tuneup utitlies2004 regularly its fine, I defragmented the harddrive last night, I ran avg antivirus It didn't find nothing. I ran adaware and it found some malware/and 1 virus I guess it healed/deleted it but I don't know. It seems that something is running in background and I can't see it. I got the blue screen of death but was able to recover, backed up all my files just in case. I don't have original xp cd that came with this originally, but have xp disk from other computer. I have read that the CMOS battery could be bad, will that affect the speed of my computer? went to command prompt and typed in "time" and time in cmd prompt was same as sys tray. Could it be bios issue? I thought I read it could be Bios battery, but not sure if that was same as cmos battery. If there is a different battery, woudl this affect the bios

Do you have a back up disc? if you do, i would burn a dvd of everything you want to keep. Then wipe the hard drive and start clean. If not google your laptop, because sometimes system restarts and pre installed on a laptop. Good luck.

To clarify: There is a small, disc battery about the size of a dime to a quarter mounted on your motherboard, usually held by small clips. Removing this is simple, just gently bend back the clips holding in the battery and remove, if it's flush with the mounting, keep a small piece of plastic or a toothpick to ease it out with. Once you have it out, put it in a zip-lock or similar bag and take it down to your local drug store. There will be a section for specialized batteries, for things such as hearing aids and other medical devices, a battery matching or similar to yours will be somewhere in this area, take a look and if you fail to find it, try asking a clerk, they get asked a good deal of questions regarding the batteries every day.
