Paleontology help please?

So I've wanted to be a paleontologist for a very long time (I'm 16 atm btw) I'm about to go to college/sixth form in September and then hopefully Portsmouth university.

For years I've been putting together a folder of paleontology work, I've researched, investigated my own theories, wrote report and even went looking around everywhere for fossils. I am determined to become a paleontologist; nothing will stop me I'll get there by any means necessary.

Here's the QUESTION; I've been looking at what I most enjoy to specialize in I love taphonomy but what I most enjoy is vertebra animals and mammals from the Cenozoic era, especially cats but I love there pray as well. Is there something I can specialize in near to that? Is there a name for study of prehistoric mammals? HELP

Thank you,

  • hi,

Portsmouth University do a BSc in Paleonotlogy and a unit on Taphonomy in the third year as well as 2 vertabrate paleontology units (one in the second and the other in the third year). You can pick your own dissitation in the third year and you can do it on Cenozoic mammals in you wanted.

The study for pre-history mammals is just palaeontology (or palaeozoology)

    hope this helps
