How do you re-set a concrete screw?

We have a sliding glass door off the living room that is attached to the concrete floor by some sort of screw. I suppose they are concrete screws ? The screw has worked it's way up enough so that the sliding door cannot fully open. The screw turns freely when I try to tighten it down so that the door could slide over it.

Do you have any suggestions as to what I need to do to repair this door ? Can I just take the screw out ? Or do I need to replace it with another or bigger screw ?

  • Here is a good old time remedy for loose screws. Take something wooden like a golf tee, or a small dowel rod, take the loose screw out, put the golf tee in the hole as far as it will go, snap it off at he surface of the door jam, then replace the screw. The wood will fill up the empty space, and make the screw hold it's place in the concrete.

  • Go to the hardware store and ask for help there. I don't know the exact name of the thing or where you'd find it, but you want a plastic sleeve thing that will fit down into the hole that the screw worked its way out of. The sleeve goes into the hole, then the screw goes into the sleeve so that it stays secured. I'm sure the folks at the hardware store will know what you're talking about if you ask for that.

  • Plastic expandable anchor with the matching screw.
