Downloading from the site, a box will pop up and ask if you want to run or save--choose Save to disk and then choose a location such as My Documents or your Desktop.
When you download custom content it is downloaded in a zip or rar file. You will need a utility to open these. WinRar is the best because it will open both types of files.
Unzip the files and follow this path:
My Documents>EA Games>The Sims 2>Downloads. If you do not have a Downloads folder you can add one--just be sure you name it with a capital D. All your package files will go here.
Anything that is base game compatible will work with any of the espansions. Some items require certain expansions. This should be indicated for the item before you download. If is based on a mesh from a certain expansion it willl not show up if you don't have that particular expansion. In some instances, if you put an item in your Downloads folder and you don't have the required expansion pack, your game could crash.
