How to escape poverty?

I had it better than others. I mean I always had clothes and christmas presents and food and I'm aware these are necessities other kids don't get to have. But we were poor nonetheless, my single mother always worked 60 hours a week to support my sister and I. Even this christmas she worked Christmas Eve and Christmas morning so I awoke by myself (it was quite lonely and sad) I'm 17 and I finished getting my GED this year because when I was 15 I suffered health issues that required me to be put on bed rest and I didn't have the patience for online schooling. I don't want to be like my mother, always too tired to do anything, no money for vacations, stressed out about money. I want to overcome my financial upbringing. My cousins who are my age are all going to private universities that my millionaire uncles are paying for, their moms-my aunts don't understand the struggle my mom has faced because they are stay at home mothers in their mansions. I feel a sense of pressure to succeed because I think my family expects me to fail like my parents did. How can I motivate myself enough so I am better able to live comfortably?

  • I'm in the same boat, I was raised by a single mother, she worked really hard but honestly it wasn't quite enough. I started working after graduating high school and helped my family until I was 24. People like you and I cannot dispense time to party, booze, women as much as other people can. Work hard, save, study hard, I mean really hard. Consume, and spend minimally if not only moderately. After all we're humans so yes we do need to relieve stress and need someone to love sometimes. But besides that save as much money as you can and invest.

Do not let your child inherit poverty that you've went through.

It's not going to be easy. I'm in late 20's and I did the same thing. It's not going to be easy and you have to be serious about it and you have to want it really bad, more than anyone else.

  • Work on your education, American companies rely on degrees for employee qualification more than in some other countries. You will also be better equipped to venture into your own business with more skills.

To continue your independent study you can try the clever whiteboard tutorials on khanacademy. you can go right to the subjects index.

The video training course site Udemy.com has a fair number of free courses along with the paid ones, and some fairly expensive ones can be free the firs couple of days with coupon codes you can find on the internet. Some of the "how to make" courses exaggerate the potential earning, but provide examples of alternate sources of income.

  • Your mom didn't fail - she succeeded in raising you and your sis which was very hard, but she's done it. That said, you don't have to go to a fancy private university to get a good job and do well in life - with the example your mom has set, and your hard work, you might end up doing even better than others who have had everything handed to them. good luck.

  • Got library where u live

Visit it and read biographies of failures who became successful people.

    Want reasons to do so?
