There is very little military training that has been submitted to the STCW offices of the Coast Guard for evaluation and acceptance. Consequently, very little military training is acceptable to meet STCW requirements.
U.S. Navy Advanced Fire Fighting training is acceptable to meet STCW Advanced Fire Fighting requirememts, provided that it was completed between 8/1/1996 and 2/28/2006.
U.S. Navy recruit basic training will meet STCW basic safety training, with the exception of training regarding survival suits. To be acceptable for STCW, the Navy training must be supplemented with a Coast Guard approved survival suit course.
There are a few other types of Navy training that is acceptable for STCW, but none associated with damage control.
