how do i transfer Sony DCR-HC14E to Macbook Pro?

Please can someone help?? I need a VERY SIMPLE step by step guide of how to transfer my Video Tapes onto my Macbook Pro. What cable do i need? I am currently using the USB cable that came with the camera, but it doesnt seem to recognise it? If someone can tell me without using too much technical jargon as im a bit of a beginner??? I ultimately want to download I movie and edit the video's and put on DVD's? Any advice would be much appreciated! Thanks :-)
