Do Temp jobs actually help?

Do temp jobs help show you have experience? When applying to jobs

Comments

  • Of course. Work is work. Nice things about temp jobs:

-- you get to experience all different work settings, so you get a broader range of experience

-- you can apply to companies where you temped, and they will already know how you do as a worker. You can use references from their staff. You won't be someone off the street. If you're good at your job, they often just ask you to stay on permanently.

-- if the job or company (or a boss or co-worker) isn't so great, you are protected somewhat by your temp agency. Let them know what's going on, and they will deal with it for you. Also, you'll get to leave eventually without being fired - the assignment will just end.

-- you can put them all on your resume or lump them together under a title like Temporary Work.

  • Oh yes, You can gain quick experience at them and they do look good on a resume. If you left a good impression when you were at the temp job, you can use them as a reference. They are great for beefing up a resume. Just don't do too many because it will look like you can't hold a long term job.
