can you delete a folder after you extract its contents?

Like I have a bunch of zip flies that I already extracted the content from so can I delete the Zip file...I hope someone understands what I am trying to ask

if your refering to the little purple green zip files rar files or zip file really once exstracted u can delete the file u exstracted it from
