700 calories a day?

im 14 years old,i weigh around 111-133 pounds,im 5'2 in height.and im vegan.everyday i eat about 700 clories a day or less like 690 or something but im not on a diet.im just not hungry all the time cuz i use to eat alot of meat but when i went vegan i guess my stomach shrunk,i do take vitimans but do u guys think its healthy cuz the people say i should be eating around 1500 calories. oh and im not excatally active.

  • You are growing and your body needs all the nutrients and calories it can get. Also as a vegan do you eat a balanced diet especially protein to help in building your body? The minimum calories are actually around 1200 for people who are dieting or looking to loose weight and 2k for the average person. I don't think your calorie intake is healthy....try snacking or increasing your meals from only 3 (if thats how many you take) to 5 small ones. You are doing harm to your body right now.....and if you dont start eating healthy and normal calories you may pay for it down the line.

  • Yea.. it is recommended that each person should eat 1500-2000 calories a day. 700 is really not enough a day for you to live healthy. It is good that you take vitamins though, but you're also not getting the nutrients needed for your everyday life by consuming real foods.

    To try and gain some weight back and from remaining vegan, I'd try drinking protein drinks, such as Ensure or Boost. They have all different flavors such as Chocolate, Vanilla, Strawberry, etc. They're very healthy for you and they also provide the nutrients you need throughout the day.

  • According to the BMI calculator, you are within normal range. But you should check a nutritionist to make sure you are getting all the essentials your body needs. Since you are just 14 you still need more protein and calcium than an adult. I think you need more calories than you say you consume. You may be able to survive on 700 calories a day, but your body won't grow and mature the way it should. You run the risk of winding up with health problems when you get older.

    Try exercising, even if it's just walking. Healthy isn't just being within normal range, it's good nutrition and good muscle tone.

  • I'm used to answering this for adults, and not 14 year olds, so my first recommendation is to see a nutritionist in person.

    Anyways, yes, 700 seems way too low. Sometimes when you eat too little, your body gets used to it, and you stop getting cravings for food or feeling hungry...even when your body actually DOES want more food.

    I'd consider to continue eating healthy foods, like you already do, but to bump up how much of it you eat. Also add some peanut butter to your meals. It's got lots of healthy calories, and, if I recall correctly, it is perfectly fine for a vegan to eat.

  • Not healthy at all, and your metabolism is going to shut down so if you ever start eating healthy again its going to be really slowww and it will take a lot of work to get it to be fast again. you are definitely malnourished, no matter how healthy you may look b/c that is not a good amount of calories. you burn 1400 alone just by breathing in one day, so that means that you are going under the caloric content that you need to live by. Eat some more please! even if you aren't hungry, try to munch on something that has nutritional value ofcourse.

  • 700 calories a day is too little even if you are not active, our body needs about 1000 calories to maintain our daily activites such as breathing and breaking down of food molecules. yeahh you should at least target to consume 1500 calories, even if you are not hungry!.

  • Human bodies need 1200 calories a day to keep from going into "starvation mode" in which they consume their own muscle and produce lethargy to conserve calories. You may be lethargic already, based on that last sentence.

  • if you eat less than 1200 calories a day, you lose muscle.. which in time will make you very weak and lazy and youll feel horrible all the time. stop being silly. youre a kid, you need to eat a lot more
