How do i transfer files from my PC to my laptop, laptop has vista, pc has xp?

i created a shared folder on the PC, and have the Laptop connected to the internet through an RJ45 cable going into the back of my PC, i have done this before when both PC's are running XP, but is it possible when one is running vista, any idea's ....??

Update:

The file i need to transfer is 14.3Gb so i cant use memory pens or cd's, and i dont have an external hard drive handy right now

  • you need to get a patch from Microsoft on there site for your xp computer so it can network to a vista computer. Then if you are directly connection your computer together make sure you have a RJ45A cable or crossover cable not a RJ45B cable. If you are connecthing trough a router then use an RJ45B cable.

  • Finaly something i can answer. Hold on a minute i will give you step by step directions. I have done this before!

Go to your vista computer, Click on the vista start,

All programs, Accesories, system tools,Windows easy transfer, continue,

Bingo. That program will give you directions and steps.

The best cable to use is what i used was the "Easy transfer cable" You can buy it at any electronics store,

    such as best buy

  • Easier... just use a USB memory drive, external hard drive. Much easier than messing arounf with data transfer cables.

  • except you do it the no-fee technique ( flash force or burn dvd: use a DVD-RW ), you'd be spending $20 to 30. There are some USB cables, yet they are particular cables and that i'm truly particular you want software with them. i'd take the a million to 2 hours and do it Flash force type myself... Eternet is very user-friendly and no-fee once you've the kit already, yet to purchase it continues to be $20 to 30...

  • why dont you try getting a memory pen and transfering all the files from your pc onto the memory pen and then transfer all the files from the memory pen onto the laptop simple bi

    xx

  • i use windows live messenger and share files that way.. i run vista on desktop and xp on laptop and dont have any probs other than that get a dongle
