Is this Pontiac a Good Car/Deal?

Its a 1992 yellow Pontiac Fiero with body kits on it to make it look like a Ferrari.

It has 37,000 original miles on it and the guy is asking $4,000 for it. The ad says that there is nothing wrong with it and that it was kept clean.

Is this car any good.

Update:

My mistake it was a 1986 OOPS!

  • It's funny how everyone knows someone who knows a guy who saw a Fiero catch on fire. I have owned several Fieros over the last 18 years and I am very active in the Fiero community and I have never known anyone who has had a Fiero burn. Of course some have caught on fire, but all cars can and will burn. There are a higher percentage of Honda Civics and Toyota Corollas that have caught on fire compared to Fieros. The truth is some '84 models got a bad shipment of connecting rods and coupled with owners not checking the oil level caused some of them to break and punch a hole in the oil pan. ALL of them were recalled and replaced.

Now, about this 1992 Fiero with a Ferrari body kit. First of all there is no such thing as a 1992 Fiero, the newest one is a 1988 - the last year they made them.

Second, any car with 37,000 miles can be a pile of junk if it was stored outside, or maybe even the odometer was rolled back. Get a Carfax.

Third, look the car over. Have you even seen pictures of it? If you buy a car sight unseen, you're asking for trouble. The fact that the owner is claiming it to be a 1992 would cause me to be cautious. This doesn't mean it is not worth buying, but you have to be smart about buying a car, any car.

  • there is a huge fiero following. they are definitely a different group of folks that seem to stick with themselves. there is a lot of stuff available for them still. The biggest thing to keep in mind is with that body kit, you better hope you don't get in an accident because most of those companies don't exist very long and getting replacement panels could be impossible which means you're having someone custom fab the parts or you live with the damage. You might check with your insurance company to see if they will even cover the body kit.

  • They are very good candidates for a supercharged 3800 engine from the later models, since they used essentially a FWD drivetrain placed in the rear of the car. Lots of websites on them, and if original miles, thats pretty good.

  • Sounds like it to me. But I would find out if parts are still obtainable. These cars were a flash in the pan and most of them went the way of the junk heap. But, this one sounds like a good deal in that there are very few around anymore. If you do buy it, have all of the hoses changed, and maybe even the water pump. AAAAND have the brake system checked out. Remember this also, they were prone to fires. So have the fuel system checked for leaks.

    Good luck.

  • I wouldn't buy it,i know 3 friends that had them, and for some reason they caught fire in the engine department. That's no lie either, but if you like it go for it.Personally i love them, but i would never buy one.
