  • Okay well assuming I understand the question correctly....

    You have trapezoid RSVT. Your top base of the trapezoid is X+12 and your bottom base of the trapezoid is 4x-6. Your median of the trapezoid is 3x+2.

    Label your median as A and B.

    The formula to use here is AB = (RS + VT)/2

    Therefore you have 3x+2 = ((x+12) + (4x-6))/2

    Simplify and you get the following:

    3x+2 = (x+4x+12-6)/2

    3x+2 = (5x+6)/2

    2(3x+2) = 5x+6

    6x+4 = 5x+6

    6x-5x = 6-4

    x = 2
